About the Mayan Pattern

Inspired by the mystical geometry of the ancient Mayan people, this intricate blanket is an exploration of the Yucatan peninsula through crochet. The radiating lines of the central hexagon reflect the pyramids at Chichen Itza, while the surrounding shapes are reminiscent of the Mayan calendar. Enclosing it all are the rippling forms of the subtropical forest and the clear blue skies.

The blanket motif measures 20″ square. Four motifs will make a striking lap throw, six a blanket perfect for sharing and nine will make a spectacular blanket. This motif is equally beautiful made in one colour to show off the stitch work, or worked in multiple colours for a kaleidoscopic effect.

Any crocheter with basic skills will enjoy this crochet adventure. If you can make a granny square, you can make the Mayan Crochet Blanket. I will be at your side every step of the way with step by step instructions and videos for each round of the pattern.

Charts are included as well and I am here to help if you get stuck.

Mayan Crochet Blanket Pattern

I have enjoyed crocheting this pattern. Everything is correct with the stitches per side, etc. so it makes staying on track easy. This is the first time I've used any of Shelley's patterns, and I will be using more in the future.

Couldn't ask for better.

It was love at first sight. I knew I had to have it. Once again, Shelley Husband has succeeded in accomplishing the perfect pattern. She has taken every precaution in making sure that every avenue of pattern writing has been explored for the many different ways her followers read patterns. There's the traditional written pattern which is very clear to follow. There's the graphic pattern and even a video on how to crochet these beautiful motif patterns. She went above board once again to accommodate every possible follower of her wonderful patterns. She truly is gifted when it comes to creating so many different squares. And we are the beneficiaries of her talent. So happy to be following her.

Hi Shelley, thanks for kickstarting this crochet adventure with the workshop at SkeinSisters in Sydney. I love how my Mayan Square has turned out. Such beautiful textures.
