About the Mayan Pattern
Inspired by the mystical geometry of the ancient Mayan people, this intricate blanket is an exploration of the Yucatan peninsula through crochet. The radiating lines of the central hexagon reflect the pyramids at Chichen Itza, while the surrounding shapes are reminiscent of the Mayan calendar. Enclosing it all are the rippling forms of the subtropical forest and the clear blue skies.
The blanket motif measures 20″ square. Four motifs will make a striking lap throw, six a blanket perfect for sharing and nine will make a spectacular blanket. This motif is equally beautiful made in one colour to show off the stitch work, or worked in multiple colours for a kaleidoscopic effect.
Any crocheter with basic skills will enjoy this crochet adventure. If you can make a granny square, you can make the Mayan Crochet Blanket. I will be at your side every step of the way with step by step instructions and videos for each round of the pattern.
Charts are included as well and I am here to help if you get stuck.
Mayan pattern multi-colour
I enjoyed making this pattern, instructions and tips given on the video link are very helpful. As long as you keep track of the pattern sequences, it is not difficult. I have made one square and look forward to making another 3 squares, or maybe more.
Mayan Crochet Blanket
I absolutely love this pattern. I can't believe what good value it is, given how many pages there are in the PDF (81 to be exact).
Shelley provides so much detail, not only with videos but photographs and charts too. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this pattern and have already shared it on my YouTube channel.
Mayan Crochet Blanket Pattern . . . so versatile!
The Mayan Crochet Blanket Pattern is so full of beautiful textures. Like all of Shelley's patterns, it is affordable, so easy to read and versatile too!
I searched everywhere (online and in my own collection) for a large motif to place into the Heirloom Sampler Blanket from Granny Square Flair as a little extra addition. I've almost finished joining all of the squares and it's looking magnificent! (A surprise 60th Birthday present for my sister.)
When this project is completed, I'm looking forward to making a floor rug with a beautiful soft pink t-shirt yarn using just one square from Granny Square Academy. Or . . . perhaps I'll go back to Granny Square Flair.
By the way, both of these publications are fantastic too! Again, easy to read, well set out and great photographic instructions of the finished squares and diagrams.
Thanks for keeping me sane while working from home during Covid Shelley!
