About the Mayan Pattern
Inspired by the mystical geometry of the ancient Mayan people, this intricate blanket is an exploration of the Yucatan peninsula through crochet. The radiating lines of the central hexagon reflect the pyramids at Chichen Itza, while the surrounding shapes are reminiscent of the Mayan calendar. Enclosing it all are the rippling forms of the subtropical forest and the clear blue skies.
The blanket motif measures 20″ square. Four motifs will make a striking lap throw, six a blanket perfect for sharing and nine will make a spectacular blanket. This motif is equally beautiful made in one colour to show off the stitch work, or worked in multiple colours for a kaleidoscopic effect.
Any crocheter with basic skills will enjoy this crochet adventure. If you can make a granny square, you can make the Mayan Crochet Blanket. I will be at your side every step of the way with step by step instructions and videos for each round of the pattern.
Charts are included as well and I am here to help if you get stuck.
I have found this block challenging but I haven’t been crocheting too long. I am on my third block and intend to do nine! I want to give this to a friend for her birthday in September. I really like your patterns and find they suit the way my mind works, I’m hoping to do the Greg one next! Give us more patterns, please!!
