About the Mayan Pattern

Inspired by the mystical geometry of the ancient Mayan people, this intricate blanket is an exploration of the Yucatan peninsula through crochet. The radiating lines of the central hexagon reflect the pyramids at Chichen Itza, while the surrounding shapes are reminiscent of the Mayan calendar. Enclosing it all are the rippling forms of the subtropical forest and the clear blue skies.

The blanket motif measures 20″ square. Four motifs will make a striking lap throw, six a blanket perfect for sharing and nine will make a spectacular blanket. This motif is equally beautiful made in one colour to show off the stitch work, or worked in multiple colours for a kaleidoscopic effect.

Any crocheter with basic skills will enjoy this crochet adventure. If you can make a granny square, you can make the Mayan Crochet Blanket. I will be at your side every step of the way with step by step instructions and videos for each round of the pattern.

Charts are included as well and I am here to help if you get stuck.

Love this pattern

I am loving all Shelley Husbands patterns. I am using this pattern to make cushions. The pattern is easy to follow and I always learn something new each time I work through her patterns.

Beautiful pattern and very clear instructions

I am fairly new to crochet and often find patterns difficult to follow. I particularly appreciate the fact that there are multiple ways of following this one - using the videos, written instructions, diagrams and photos.

A Beginner with hope.

I saw Spincushions on Instagram and immediately researched her books. Then bought two. I love her contemporary style. I purchased the Mayan pattern with hope. I’m not on this level but the instructions and the YouTube content has really helped. If I ask for help I get help. You also get links to how to do the stitches and the stitch dictionary helps too I initially thought that I would make this pattern as a blanket for a friend but I’ve decided to keep it for myself. I do love it. And im excited to see how I get on

Have loved the design the pattern makes and have learned some new stitches and find it to be something I look forward to working on.
