A wonderful collection of squares

This lovely book has 64 new granny squares designed by the very talented Shelley Husband. The squares were inspired by the seas of the world, and Siren’s Atlas certainly shows us the versatility of the granny square. The book starts with what you need to have, and what you need to know, then explains—in a way that is easy to understand—about how to read patterns and charts. There’s a pictorial index of all the patterns, then each of the patterns is set out clearly, with accompanying illustration and chart. At the end of the book is a glossary with explanations of all the stitches, and a section which gives you yarn information. The book is easy to navigate and you will never find yourself “all at sea.” I must admit that I’m a great fan of Shelley Husband’s work, ever since I joined her crochet-a-long in Yarn issue 47. Her step-by-step instructions are excellent and very easy to follow, and the book is available in both US and UK (Australian) versions. The Sirens were mythical creatures who lured sailors to their deaths. I am certainly pulled by the lure of this book to crochet yet another excellent project. If you’re looking for a gift for a friend who crochets—or for yourself—you can’t go past this book.
