Manderley Crochet Blanket Taster Pattern

Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again.  Such a wonderful opening line from the book Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.

My next big blanket project is called the Manderley Crochet Blanket Pattern after the estate in the book.  The house is surrounded by giant rhododendron bushes and so the very floral look of this design fits the name well.

This free download taster square is the smallest of the three patterns in the full blanket.  It's a chance for you to play with different yarns and colours to see what you'd like to make your blanket in when it is ready to go.   You can try out the techniques and stitches used in the pattern, getting familiar with them before the full pattern is released.

What's included in this free taster;

  • yarn needs for 3 yarn weights

  • written pattern

  • a sample of the level of help that will be available in the full pattern.

The full pattern will have;

  • charts and written patterns for all 3 squares and the border
  • video for all rounds of all patterns
  • extensive, very detailed help with close up and round by round photos
  • 2 layout options with help how to plan your own layout
  • 3 colour options with yardage for each in 3 yarn weights

I hope you enjoy your adventures in Manderley.

The full pattern is for pre-order now.  Click here

When you’ll receive the pattern…

This is a digital PDF pattern. You will receive an email with a link to download the PDF as soon as checkout is complete. Please check your spam or junk folder for the email from "Spincushions Downloads" if you don't see it.

Manderly Crochet Blanket "taster" pattern

As a life- long crocheter - the one thing I always avoided, for no particular reason, was Granny Squares. But recently, I decided to take up a new challenge and from there, it was off to the races. You might say that I've become obsessed! In my quest for more granny square patterns, I came across Shelley and started with a few of her free pattern squares - among them the Manderly. I loved it so much that I decided to purchase the entire pattern and am in the process of working up a blanket right now. I consider myself a fairly accomplished crocheter but I also purchased Shelley's Granny Square Academy to double-check my technique and I highly recommend this for any newer crocheters out there. I now have just about all of Shelley's books in my library - and anxiously await the release of her latest - Granny Square Patchwork. I've learned so much from Shelley already and because I had worked up many other squares from other designers, the difference in her pattern build becomes immediately obvious once you can spot the difference. Where she begins her squares (which, in my opinion, is key to a seamless looking square), the false stitch method, invisible joins, and other nice tips and tricks, even for an old-timer crocheter like me - have done wonders to perfect the final product. Thank you Shelley for your stunning creations and for sharing them with all of us! Just knowing I have all these beautiful squares to work on makes me happy!

Brilliant pattern

The pattern has texture and a pleasing structure. It was easy to follow Shelley’s pattern and it turned out beautifully.

Spot on

I really enjoyed this Danvers taster pattern. It was very clear from the written pattern and I really like the chart - a bit of a visual learner. I was especially pleased that I was able to work the Danvers pattern to the expected size in the 10 ply aran cotton. On the strength of this, I bought the full Manderley pattern and am half way through the next size up - Maxim. Am planning on working the full blanket in red cotton - and have bought all of the yarn I'll need so that I won't have any problems with the dye lot.
